Spherical ZVI/Mn-C Bimetallic Catalysts for Efficient Fenton-like Reaction under Mild Conditions

The heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction has been receiving increasing attention for its inexpensiveness and high efficiency in water treatment. In this study, a novel strategy was proposed preparing spherical ZVI/Mn-C bimetallic catalysts with activity by using the ammonium alginate assisted sol–gel method coupled carbothermic reduction. results showed that obtained spheres had uniform size, smooth surface good sphericity, particle size of ZVI limited to about 30 nm carbon layer. Among all catalysts, ZVI/Mn-C-31 catalyst exhibited highest phenol degradation process, almost 100% achieved under neutral pH at room temperature within 5 min. Moreover, ZVI/Mn-C-31/H2O2 system removing wide range aromatic pollutants, including catechol, resorcinol o-nitrophenol. radicals-scavenging experiment illustrated ·OH played key factor mineralizing organic matters, ·O2− generated from MnO-H2O2 accelerated conversion rate ferric iron ferrous iron. Due synergistic effects between MnO, performed excellently an extended range.
